Today, I’m excited to share my review of the ComMarker B6 Fiber Laser Engraver. As many of you know, the B6 is a highly capable fiber laser engraver that’s made waves in industries ranging from metalworking to jewelry design. In this video and review, I’ll be diving deep into its features, performance, and overall functionality to help you decide if this fiber laser engraver is right for your needs.
What Is the ComMarker B6 Fiber Laser Engraver?
The ComMarker B6 is a fiber laser engraver designed for high-speed and high-precision marking, engraving, and cutting on a wide range of materials. It features multiple power options, including 20W, 30W, and 50W laser modules, allowing it to handle everything from stainless steel and aluminum to gold, silver, and titanium, as well as plastics, stone, and leather. Whether you’re a professional engraver or a hobbyist, this fiber laser engraver is engineered to bring both versatility and reliability to your workflow.
Key Features of the ComMarker B6 Fiber Laser Engraver
Powerful Laser Technology
The B6 fiber laser engraver is equipped with a fiber laser module that uses 1064 nm wavelength light. This laser wavelength is ideal for engraving metals, plastics, and other materials. The 20W, 30W, and 50W laser options allow you to choose the perfect configuration for your needs, whether you need to mark intricate designs on delicate items or cut through thicker metals. The high power ensures you can tackle a broad range of projects with ease.
High-Speed Engraving
One of the standout features of the ComMarker B6 fiber laser engraver is its speed. Capable of engraving at speeds up to 15,000 mm/s, this machine is built for high-efficiency projects. Whether you’re engraving fine details on jewelry or cutting shapes from thick metal plates, the B6 fiber laser engraver ensures fast processing without sacrificing quality.
Impressive Precision
With an engraving accuracy of 0.01 mm, the B6 fiber laser engraver can produce highly detailed markings. This is especially useful for industries that require precision, such as electronics and jewelry. Whether you’re marking serial numbers on small components or engraving intricate logos, the B6 delivers sharp, clear results.
User-Friendly Interface and Setup
ComMarker has designed the B6 fiber laser engraver to be user-friendly, with a touch screen for manual focus adjustments and an auto-focus feature that saves time during setup. Setting up the machine takes only about 10 minutes, and the software provided—EZCAD 2—is intuitive enough for both beginners and professionals to use. The machine is compatible with both Windows and Mac systems and can be connected via USB cable for seamless integration into your workflow.
Portable and Compact
Despite its power and precision, the B6 fiber laser engraver is relatively compact and semi-portable. The laser module can be split from the controller base, making it easier to store or move when needed. It’s smaller and lighter than the older B4 series from ComMarker, making it ideal for small workshops or those with limited space.
How Does the B6 Fiber Laser Engraver Perform?
Setting Up with LightBurn
I found LightBurn to be the best software for fiber laser engravers, and that’s what I connected the B6 to on my PC. After opening LightBurn, I manually added the machine by selecting “JCZ Fiber” from the list. The software allowed me to import the configuration file from the USB drive provided with the B6, ensuring I had the correct settings from the start.
After setting up, I used the software to import my test designs and configured the B6 for engraving. I performed a series of tests on different materials like stainless steel, aluminum, and brass to evaluate the engraving results.
Engraving on Various Materials
The first material I tested was stainless steel. I set the machine’s focal distance using the manual and auto-focus features, and then performed a test grid engraving. The results were crisp and precise, showing that the B6 fiber laser engraver handled fine details excellently.
Next, I moved on to engraving on aluminum and brass. I repeated the test grid and then engraved my logo on a brass coin. The B6 performed beautifully, with no over-heating or distortions, which is often a concern with lower-quality machines. The laser’s power was perfectly controlled, ensuring clean, high-contrast engravings on these metals.
Deep Engraving and 2.5D Marking
The B6 fiber laser engraver doesn’t just do surface marking. I was able to achieve deep 2.5D engravings on materials like anodized aluminum and brass coins. This machine handles intricate designs, including grayscale depth map images, and can engrave multi-layered details with high precision.
Another test I did was engraving a photo of my grandfather onto an anodized aluminum card. The result was a stunning, high-resolution image that was perfectly marked on the surface. The machine’s precision allows it to create stunning visual effects that bring personal and commercial projects to life.
Cutting Performance
One of the most impressive aspects of the B6 fiber laser engraver is its ability to cut through metal. I tested cutting a half-millimeter thick aluminum card and a 0.8-millimeter thick aluminum sheet, pushing the 30W version to its limits. While it was at the edge of its rated cutting capabilities, the result was clean and accurate. The 50W model would likely perform even better for thicker materials, cutting up to 1.5 mm thick metals with ease.
Advanced Techniques and Workarounds
Multi-Pass Cutting Method
A unique technique I used for cutting thicker materials involved adjusting the settings for deep engraving and running multiple passes. Instead of using a single cut, I set the cut to fill mode and increased the number of passes until the laser completely cut through the material. This multi-pass technique allowed me to cut through thicker materials that the laser’s single pass might have struggled with, and the results were surprisingly effective.
PCB Creation
Another interesting test was using the B6 fiber laser engraver to create a printed circuit board (PCB) on a copper-clad board. I set up the design in LightBurn and used the laser to remove the copper around the traces and contacts. While the results weren’t perfect, the B6 performed admirably for creating basic PCBs. I used binder clips to hold the board flat, but clamps would have likely worked better for keeping the material steady during the engraving.
Laser Welding
One of the most exciting capabilities of the B6 fiber laser engraver is its ability to weld thin sheets of metal. I was able to successfully weld a 0.1 mm thick stainless steel sheet to a 1 mm steel plate. Although I don’t anticipate doing much welding with this machine, it’s a fantastic bonus feature that can come in handy for specialized projects.
