For someone just getting into laser engraving I had no issues setting up this machine onto my Windows laptop. I recommend Lightburn 100% for anyone.
They delivered the item fast and a replacement of a part was sent with a simple email communication
This review relates to the B4 model with the 20 Watt Max Laser source
The machine is very easy to unbox and get up running. It is also very compact, and different from many other prosumer-class lasers. One person can easily carry the machine in its packaging and put it together; it is just the mounting of the laser head to the column where a helping hand will make things easier. The machine comes with good factory presets (focus, timings) which can be fine-tuned for even better results as you progress on your learning curve. However, you need a very good microscope to make these improvements visible, the results out of the box are already quite impressive. The MAX Laser Module (20 Watts) can handle all kinds of metals well, engraving on plastics is possible in some cases, but due to the frequency range (20-60 kHz, typical for entry-level laser sources) you might see some limitations. This is why I have just ordered a MOPA-Laser from Commarker. If you stick to metals the B4 will handle everything you throw at it.
Specifications: there are two things you might want to look at closely.
1. Commarker is constantly improving their web-site in regard to present their products but there are still some inconsistencies and sources of confusion. You want to be aware that the 20 Watt model is the most compact one, the 30 Watt-versions and higher are quite a bit larger. This information has been added recently (however not everywhere), but when you choose your model on the store-page you still just see the picture of the 20 W-model (this has been rectified for the MOPA-version), even when you choose a higher powered (and bigger) version. So, for example, when you add an enclosure, make sure to select the big size for 30 W and above. When you order accessories for the B4 it might be a good idea to check with Commarker that everything fits together.
2. Performance Specs: Like all machine suppliers Commarker tells you all the good stuff about their machines, e.g. Maximum Galvo Speed is 15.000 mm/second. Wow. Sounds great. But that`s about it. The standard B4 (Max or Raycus Laser source) work in a frequency range of around 20-60 kHz (give or take a few kHz). If you look at the pictures you see that engraving a hatched box (anodized Aluminium, line distance=1 mm), frequency 20 kHz, that the result at 1000 mm/s is perfect. The letters are only 0.5 mm high, and the legibility is outstanding. Cheers! The corners of the box are very good, and the horizontal lines touch the vertical ones perfectly. At 2000 mm/s the result is still perfect to the naked eye, but under the microscope you can see that the lines are not "lines" any longer but rather an array of pixels that do not overlap enough to make a solid line. The effect becomes more pronounced at 4000 mm/s, you also see that the corner of the box looks a bit strange (you can already see this at 2000 mm/s if you look for it), the lines are an array of dots with some space in between them. This is much worse at 8000 mm/s and there quality becomes unacceptable. The horizontal lines do not touch the vertical lines any more - this can be compensated by changing the timings, but when you are new to lasers you will have no idea how to do this. In my opinion the B4 20 W Q-switch laser can be used up to 2000 mm/s out of the box, you can probably get to 4000 mm/s with some fine-tuning. You can increase the frequency to get the dots closer together but with higher frequencies the engraving power goes down, so this won`t help you. 20 Watt is not enough to deep-engrave metals at higher frequencies. A fast galvo can be useful to dial in a higher jump speed (the speed at which the mirrors move with the Laser off) but again, you will need some expertise to get the timings right. To cut a long story short: The B4 20 Watt machine can go up to around 2000 mm/s at ca. 30 kHz, at 4000 mm/s quality gets compromised. That`s the way the cookie crumbles, and in my opinion Commarker should not state specs that do not make any sense at all.
Supplied lenses: the B4 comes with a 110x110 mm² and a 200x200 mm² lens. I don`t think that`s good. You cannot reasonably cover the larger area with 20 Watts of power for 200x200 mm², if you want to engrave this area, you need a much stronger laser. When you order this machine I advise to ask Commarker to ship a 70x70 mm² lens instead of the 200x200 mm², this gives you more precision and a lot of additional engraving power. 110x110 mm² is a good standard lens.
Customer Service: this is where Commarker shines. I have had some issues, and all of them have been resolved swiftly without fussing around to my fullest satisfaction. If you need help or assistance they will be there for you, and this is much more important than anything else.
Summary: the B4 is a very good machine overall, I can fully recommend it. The key selling point is the outstanding customer service from Commarker. Don`t get fooled by the specs, and you will be a happy customer.
I’d love to give a review but I am still waiting for delivery… 🤷🏼♂️
Tolle Maschine, toller Support! Habe nichts auszusetzen. Der Laser ist super verarbeitet und mit den Tutorials war das einrichten in Lightburn kein Problem. E-Mails werden auch innerhalb von ein paar Std. beantwortet. Kurz und knapp, alles zu meiner besten Zufriedenheit.
Really fast shipping, packed very good. Product does a great job. I have the unit indoors. No smoke no smell. Very satisfied.
Another order and again excellent service, I am verry happy to be dealing with this company. - Recommend to all
The enclosure is a real game changer. Not only does it protect yours, and any bystanders eye's, it provides very good noise suppression. We plan on using our B4 in public settings, so it's essential in order to protect our customers and staff, and prevent any liability issues. Coupled with the ComMarker 100 watt exhaust system, and we have a complete package that's both extremely useful and well constructed. Looks good too! We found it very easy to use. The handy door allows easy access to the work area, and the door magnets keep it closed when needed. Its light enough to make transporting it to and from our planned convention area's a doable thing without much trouble. The aluminum frame is very well made and easy to assemble using the included instructions. Assembly time was fairly quick and the instructions were pretty clear. I have zero complaints about the enclosure. Worth the investment.
Works for most things I have tried . It is pushing its limits to make a 32 oz tumbler with but still get it done.
I have only had this laser for a couple of weeks. So far, I am very happy with it. This fiber laser has opened up many more possibilities to go with my CO2 and diode lasers. The machine came well packaged and was easy to assemble. The only drawback is that the english versions of the printed and video instructions could be better. The descriptions were unclear and lacking in detail.
I couldn't edit earlier '1 star' review, so here is an update. Customer service reached out immediately after I posted that with a fix and all seems to be working fine now. So far, very happy with my purchase.
Im extremely happy with the laser. Very easy to use. It only took a very short time to set up and start using. I was engraving in no time. So far, I've made aluminum business cards, slate coasters, dog tags, engraved tools, and engraved some rings with the rotary tool. I couldn't be happier with the unit. Ive purchased virtually every available accessory for it. All the rotaries, the 100 watt fume extractor, and the medium sized safety enclosure. We plan on adding this to our small business.
The unit was delivered much faster than expected. Well protected during shipment. I am very pleased with the quality and attention to detail. It was up and running within an hour of the unboxing. Overall the ComMarker is an amazing value.
The product arrived way ahead of shipping window schedule. Took less than 2 weeks. It arrived well packed and fires up but haven't tested yet but so far excellent. Update: The performance is outstanding and quality is high.
They have and excellent support and customer service! The machine is perfect!
